The Food Services Worker position's primary responsibilities include: prepare and serve meals to residential clients in a clean and sanitary manner. Follow TN Department of Public Health & USDA requirements. Appropriately store foods, wash cooking utensils, and clean equipment along with cooking and serving areas. Check operation of equipment and report malfunctions/repairs needed. Enter information in system/record meals in in system, to meet USDA requirements. This is a full-time position working on a rotational schedule.


Job Duties include:

  • Assist the food service manager in the performance of the following duties during
    work day. Perform duties as described.
  • When available to substitute for Food Service Manager, prepare and serve the breakfast, lunch and/or dinner meals Monday through Sunday (based on schedule), according to the six-week cycle menus, using standardized recipes in food preparation.
  • Follow the guideline of the Tennessee Department of Public Health and USDA in the preparation and service of appropriate amounts of each of the food categories to ensure proper nutrition in accordance with the menus. Maintain daily records for USDA.
  • Estimate food requirements and the subsequent control of serving portions to eliminate waste and unnecessary leftovers, meeting USDA standards, when appropriate.
  • Key/record necessary data for recording of meals in meeting USDA standards, when appropriate.
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, and all equipment used in food preparation and service.
  • Clean all equipment, cooking area, and serving area daily to maintain safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Push heavy, fully loaded utility cart to all campus locations.
  • Store all groceries, meats, fruits, vegetables, etc., in appropriate storage facilities.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in all storage areas, storage containers, refrigerators, freezers, etc.
  • Check the operation of equipment and report to the supervisor any malfunctions or repairs needed.

Job Qualifications:
  • Experience in working in food services, preferably in a residential or school setting. Graduation from an accredited high school is desirable.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly in English
  • Demonstrate physical capability of standing on food line and serving meals
  • Satisfactory visual & audio capabilities
  • Maintain sanitary conditions on person
  • Sit or stand for extended periods
  • Bend, stoop, climb steps/stairs, reach, and/or squat
  • Lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed
