Job Summary:

The job of Senior Educational Assistant was established for the purpose/s of effecting positive behavioral change in students; oversight for direct care/educational assistants in ensuring quality delivery of services for students in the educational setting; providing supportive interventions to, DCS representatives, and/or students; and complying with audits, Agency policies, regulations and/or procedures. This position will be in ratio during agency hours for youth/staff ratio compliance and in ratio for emergency/crisis situations.

Essential Functions:

  1. Acts as liaison with the public and mental health community for the purpose of supporting individual student development goals.
  2. Provides oversight and direction for direct care/education assistants and administers programs and services for behaviorally and/or emotionally disturbed students for the purpose of improved functioning and ensuring program eligibility and compliance with established guidelines.  

        3. Submits a daily school report available agency wide based on the gathering of reports from teachers, principal, education assistants and others involved with the school in order to ensure compliance and adherence to treatment plan goals.

  1. Provides direct client care while school is in session.  Position may be in the computer lab, provide ratio, ensure safety plans and no harm contracts are being monitored, and communicates with all who are working with the youth (DCS, Residential, Square One). 
  2. Coordinates through contact with school staff and Agency personnel for the purpose of complying with mandated requirements.
  3. Works with principal to provide coverage when school is out or for holidays.  Will be responsible to ensure that ratio is covered and clients’ needs are met.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

 Ability to work successfully with school representatives and program participants.  Previous experience in residential area, working with at-risk youth, and supervision of staff, preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • (BFOQ) Ability to participate in all facets of TCI restraint training as required
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English both written and verbal
  • Good visual & audio capabilities
  • Sit or stand for extended periods
  • Bend, stoop, and/or squat, climb, reach
  • PC/Keyboarding abilities
  • Lift up to 40 pounds
  • Work extended hours as needed (>40 per week)
