Job Summary:

The Youth Care Worker is responsible for assisting in the coordination of residential services and providing professional treatment and care to adolescents.   The position provides quality youth care and close supervision of adolescent clients in a residential setting.  In addition, this position is responsible for providing a range of residential support groups and skills training services to adolescents and families, tracking and reporting on adolescent’s treatment progress, and providing peer leadership. Individual is expected to work cooperatively in a teamwork environment. This position may be part of ratio during business hours as needed for youth/staff ratio compliance and in ratio for emergency/crisis situations as assigned by management.  This position is responsible for the direct supervision and safety of all residents on the floor through consistent shift monitor. The YCW/YSW staff member promotes and enhances a client-centered and goal supportive environment at all times.

**** This shift is scheduled Sunday-Wednesday 10:30pm-9am

Essential Functions:

  1. Be knowledgeable of whereabouts of residents at all times; Knowledge of whereabouts and direct supervision of all adolescents, including daily room checks and documentation of adolescent’s presence on the tracking chart for every 20 minutes, or sooner, as situations arise, and safety plans dictate or warrant for client safety.
  2. Closely supervise residents at the facility and on outings; ensure that any hostilities are de-escalated and prevented whenever possible. This position may be part of ratio during business hours as needed for youth/staff ratio compliance and in ratio for emergency/crisis situations as assigned by management.
  3. Take appropriate action in accordance with training and/or agency guidelines in handling any given situation including appropriate behavior modification, implementing TCI procedures, or apprehending a runaway.
  4. Make every effort to see that agency rules are enforced, and that policies and procedures are followed.
  5. Supervise client duties; promptly report discrepancies according to procedures
  6. Monitor medical status of clients; transport clients to the doctor or hospital when indicated.
  7. Exhibit a respectful, caring, and understanding attitude toward all clients and their families.  Serve as a positive role model. Use of profanity should always be avoided in Agency-related work and activities.

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED. 
  • One (1) year of experience working in a children’s services program is preferred.  Volunteer experience and practicum and intern experience in programs/facilities that work with dysfunctional children and families may be counted as pertinent experience. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Possess average and above visual and auditory capabilities in the supervision of adolescents
  • (BFOQ:)  Be physically capable of meeting Handle with Care (restraint) requirements
  • (BFOQ:)  Have no health conditions that would prevent participation in restraint requirements
  • Able to stand or sit for extended periods
  • Able to squat, bend, stoop
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Able to walk and/or run a quarter mile continuously, and/or climb steps/stairs as necessary
  • Ability to remain conscious and alert if/when scheduled to work late night/early morning hours
